The seam
01Sent off in peace
Judas and Silas are released to go back. A later hand worried that left Silas on the road, and wrote a verse to sit him down.
02It pleased Silas to stay
The courtesy verse. KJV has it. The oldest copies do not. 15:40 already picks him.
03Paul chose Silas
Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord. Silas was there. The story knew it.

Read it this way
Acts 15:33 says Judas and Silas were sent off in peace from the brothers in Antioch. A few verses later Paul chooses Silas and goes. A scribe who noticed 15:33 — they were sent off — feared Silas had gone back to Jerusalem, and added 15:34 to keep him in Antioch: it pleased Silas to abide there still.
Acts 15:40 already has Paul choose Silas. The nervous margin became a verse. WEB, BSB, and ASV leave it out. KJV keeps the courtesy that makes sure Silas is in town for the next sentence.
Silas is not missing from Acts. He sings in the prison. He is named in the letters. This one extra line is a copyist solving a problem the next paragraph had already solved.
