The copies

Witness

Matthew jumps a verse. The prayer stops. Two strokes decide God or He.

Walk the copies. KJV often keeps the longer reading. BSB follows the older books. When a post says theft, we show you the page. A missing verse is often still in Mark. This is not a decoder ring for villains.

The gaps

A line sits in the KJV and not in the oldest copy. It is often still in Mark or Luke.

The joins

An Amen was added. A hard stop was kept. Sweat like blood is argued. A woman the church would not lose.

The words

The copies disagree on God or He, on blood, on three that testify, and on God or Son.

The words · 02 of 05 · Ephesians keeps the blood

Through His blood

Ephesians keeps the blood. This one Colossians clause, in the oldest copies, is shorter.

King James (1611)
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.
Berean Standard Bible
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The word

αἷμα

blood, what was poured out, the cost (haima)

Walk this word

King James, matching Ephesians

Redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

The oldest Colossians

Redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The two readings

  1. 01This clause, shorter

    Colossians 1:14

In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. The oldest copies stop there. Later copies finish the rhyme from Ephesians.

  2. 02The twin sentence

    Ephesians 1:7

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses. KJV and BSB both keep the blood here. The couplet lives.

  3. 03Peace by the blood of His cross

    Colossians 1:20

Four verses later, in the same chapter, in every copy. He made peace through the blood of His cross. Colossians did not lose the blood.

  4. 04Precious blood

    1 Peter 1:19

The precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish. The posts that start at Colossians 1:14 never seem to finish the walk.

Read it this way

Colossians 1:14 and Ephesians 1:7 are twin sentences. In Him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Ephesians adds “through His blood.” The oldest copies of Colossians do not. A scribe who knew Ephesians often completed Colossians to match, the way you finish a couplet you can already hear.

The blood was not removed from the Bible. It is in Romans 3:25, 5:9. It is in Ephesians 1:7, in KJV and in BSB. It is in Hebrews 9. It is in 1 Peter 1:19. It is in Revelation 1:5. One clause in Colossians is shorter in the oldest books because the twin in Ephesians already carried the phrase.

αἷμα (haima) is blood. Walk it. Do not let a post tell you the cross was edited out of a letter that still says He made peace by the blood of His cross four verses later.

Still on the page: Ephesians 1:7 — In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses. (KJV and BSB both keep the blood here.)

Some sayThey took the blood out of redemption.

The blood was not removed from the Bible. It was not copied from Ephesians into this one clause.
