Weeks — fifty days
Count seven Sabbaths. Then a loud day. The Spirit does not arrive on a random morning.
You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a new grain offering to the Lord.
The appointed time
01Count seven Sabbaths
From the day you bring the sheaf. Seven full weeks. The feast is a counted wait, not a mood.
02Fifty days, new grain
The day after the seventh Sabbath. A new grain offering. Two loaves. A holy convocation. No ordinary work.
03When the day was fulfilled
They are together in one place. The feast has arrived. The calendar is not an accident under the fire.
04Tongues like fire
Divided tongues, as of fire, on each of them. They speak. The street is full of nations. The mighty works of God in every language.
Read it this way
From the waved sheaf you count seven full weeks. Shavuot (שָׁבוּעוֹת) is weeks. On the fiftieth day, new grain, two loaves, a holy convocation. Later Jewish memory also hears Sinai on this day — the mountain, the fire, the words. That memory is old. It is not a verse we have to invent.
Acts says when the day of Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all together. There is a sound like a wind, and tongues like fire. Every nation in the street hears the mighty works of God in its own language. Peter stands up and says this is what Joel promised. The feast was already on the calendar. The fire did not pick a spare Tuesday.
Some sayPentecost is a church birthday. The Jewish feast is unrelated.
Fifty days from the sheaf. Then a people on fire. Acts is not inventing a holiday. It is filling one.
